About

FlightSchoolIntel

A location-first US flight school directory for prospective student pilots. Compare schools near where you live or train, read living local intel, and match on life-fit — not a fleet encyclopedia or a scraped price sheet.

What we are

Choosing a flight school is one of the most expensive decisions a student pilot makes, and it is hard to undo. FlightSchoolIntel exists so you can start from a trustworthy list: where the school is, what it is certificated to teach, and whether it fits your life — not a national ranking dressed up as data.

We are not a fleet tracker, an all-in tuition calculator, or a review site that re-ranks Google. Those are easy to fake and hard to keep honest. Location, FAA status, and dated intel are not.

How listings are sourced

Every row starts from a public record we can point to. We enrich that record; we do not invent coverage.

  • FAA Part 141 — core census

The directory starts from FAA-certificated Part 141 pilot schools (Facility Dashboard). That federal roster is the backbone of the list, not a scrape of another website.

  • Part 61 — expanding, not faked

Part 61 coverage is densified from legal public sources only: Google Places (metro search), the VA GI Bill Comparison Tool, and the SEVP certified-school list. FAA Part 141 rows stay canonical when a densify source matches. Low-confidence Places hits stay hidden until review. We will not scrape AOPA or flightschools.fyi.

  • Enrichment — signals, not a ranking

Google Places supplies ratings, review counts, and coordinates (refreshed weekly) and we show them as-is. Certificates offered, airport associations, and IPEDS figures for matched universities are enrichment — not a FlightSchoolIntel score.

Duplicate campuses are merged or hidden, never deleted. The same FAA certificate in a different city is a campus, not a duplicate. Certificates we track when we have them: Private (PPL), Instrument (IR), Commercial (CPL), CFI, ATP, and Multi-Engine (ME).

Life-fit matching

The school-matching quiz treats location as a hard filter. Stay-local results only include schools within about 50 miles of your ZIP. Regional travel widens that to about 150 miles. Relocating opts out of the radius gate — we will not match Los Angeles to Florida unless you say so.

Among schools that pass that gate, we score life-fit: training goal, certificates offered, Part 141 when it matters for a career path, and Google reviews as a signal. It is a shortlist, not a ranking of “best schools in America.”

Living intel

The intel feed is how the directory stays fresher than a static school list. Each item has a title, summary, public source, date, and a national / state / metro / airport / school scope. Live items come from vetted public feeds (Federal Register FAA documents and General Aviation News). Seed entries stay marked editorial sample and are not the primary feed once live items exist. We do not invent headlines and we do not scrape other flight-school directories.

FAQ

Where does FlightSchoolIntel get its school list?
The core census is FAA Part 141 certificated pilot schools. We expand Part 61 coverage from legal public sources only — Google Places, VA GI Bill flight programs, and the SEVP certified-school list. Duplicate campuses are merged or hidden, not deleted. We will not scrape AOPA or other flight-school directories.
How are Google ratings handled?
Star ratings and review counts come from Google Places and are refreshed weekly. We display them as-is as a public signal — not a FlightSchoolIntel ranking of schools.
How does the school-matching quiz work?
Location is a hard filter. Stay-local results only include schools within about 50 miles of your ZIP unless you opt in to regional travel (about 150 miles) or relocating. Among schools that pass that gate, we score life-fit: training goal, certificates offered, Part 141 when it matters, and Google reviews as a signal.
How do I correct a listing?
There is no school login portal. Request a listing update on this site or email hello@flightschoolintel.com. We verify corrections against FAA and other public sources before changing the directory.
